In today’s digital age, we are constantly looking for new applications to replace paper-based processes. Digitalization in the field of veterinary medicine still leaves a lot of room to improve, which is why we are breaking new ground with the Piavet System as a digital monitoring solution for equine veterinarians.
And because we focus on this special industry niche, getting feedback, ideas, and insights from working veterinarians is key. To improve this feedback process, we created the Piavet User Board and Vet Board.
The User Board
After initial development of our product alongside veterinarians and industry partners, we now are focusing heavily on what our users—you as veterinarians—want and need from a high-end digital monitoring solution.
How it works
This means that all of our users’ feedback, suggestions and ideas—as well as those of their colleagues—are tracked as ‘requests’ in the User Board backlog. The requests are then prioritized internally by our dedicated customer support team and product developers.
The User Board is currently made up of a group of about eight stakeholders who represent our customers’ interests and who are responsible for discussing and prioritizing requests.
The User Board meets every two weeks to prioritize all new requests and discuss open topics. To ensure quality and proper prioritization, we take as many opinions into account as possible regarding each of the requests. For example, before a request can be implemented, it must pass through the request flow from the User Board to the Developer Board. This is where the specifications and required resources are discussed with our Product team before anything goes into development.
Requests that affect the company strategy or require a specific budget (like research projects) must also be brought to our c-level for approval.
The Vet Board
The Vet Board is a group of field specialists from the US and Europe who represent the interests of current and prospective customers for the Piavet Solution. It consists of our most engaged Piavet Users who see the digital future of their industry and want to play a part in paving the path.
How it works
The Vet Board helps distinguish which requests are most important and how they should be implemented. It’s a source of vital information for the User Board. To achieve this, the Vet Board members complete a maximum of two surveys per month. The survey results are taken into account when prioritizing individual topics, but completely new requests can also arise from this feedback. Some topics brought forward by the Vet Board have been:
- Temperatur
- Activity display
- Data export function
- Alerts
- Patient management system
The ongoing development of the Piavet Solution is made possible by this core function of the User Board and Vet Board, helping to ensure that the interests of our customers are taken into account before implementing new features or functionality.
What have we already achieved?
Since the introduction of the Vet and User Boards in the Spring of 2020, we have implemented several new valuable features on the Piavet Platform. While many of these changes are obvious to the user, some happen in the backend and are not visible on the platform. Below are a few examples of what has already been implemented:
- Mobile responsive web app for all phones
- Various “tool tip” explanations on the platform
- Edit function for finished measurements
- A ‘What’s New’ page with update information
- Respiration improvements
- Manual ECG scaling
- Triggered alerts, measurement notes, and attachment quality displayed during and after finished measurements
- Platform performance adjustments
- Start a measurement by clicking on a chosen measuring device
- And more…
Upon writing this, we are working on:
- Improvements to respiration
- Improving the body temperature algorithm
- Belt design improvements
- Adding case type options
- Providing a variety of alert response times
- Direct contact to customer support via the platform
- And more…
In Figure 1 you can see several new features on the Dashboard, such as the ‘What’s New’ page (in the bottom left corner), hardware tool tips (in the right-side panel), and the ability to edit a finished measurement (using the icons in the measurement list).
Some of the latest updates are visible here in Figure 2, such as the alerts, notes, and attachment quality displayed on the righthand side.
Paving the way for a digital future
We are always seeking to maintain the Piavet Solution as a user-friendly system that brings our vets unmatched value every day, for every patient. And the User Board and Vet Board have become foundational to this effort, ensuring that we are always serving the interests of our users—present and future.
