We are very happy to announce two big updates! First, we are now offering a FREE user account option for those who are not equipped with the Piavet System for remote vital sign monitoring, but who want to use our new exam feature. And this new feature is our second announcement—we have added exams to the Piavet Platform! This allows all users to record examination notes and observations for an improved patient management experience.
Who can register for a free account?
Piavet account registration is now open to everyone and just requires an iOS device. Once an account is created, users can access the Piavet App to create new patients, owners, and exams. In addition, users can log in on the WebApp (on any Internet-enabled device) to view all recorded exams and download each as a PDF.
Unlike many consumer software solutions that offer a free version in addition to a paid subscription, the Piavet Solution was originally tailor-made for vets to do advanced health monitoring of their equine patients, which requires having our complete Piavet System including our sensor-enabled measuring device for taking live recordings. While this is the best way to save time, add value and increase practice revenues, we wanted everyone to have a chance to increase efficiency using the Piavet Platform.
New exam feature on the Piavet Platform
That’s why we created a new feature for efficient and detailed charting, which is available to what we’re calling our Piavet “Exam” Users (those who register for a free account), as well as our Piavet System Users. Now clinic staff as well as horse owners, breeders, and other equine care takers can use the Piavet Platform to add exam notes directly to a patient’s digital chart or track the health of their personal or client-owned horses with ease.
What can I do with the new exam feature?
All Piavet Users can now log in to the Piavet Platform for their daily charting, examination tracking, and patient management needs.
Daily charting
Many clinics still use paper charts, and while this has long been the standard, we are helping vets and their teams to transform the way they work with more secure and efficient digital solutions. By utilizing our new examination feature on the Piavet Platform, users can create new owners and patients and record exam notes easily and securely on any iOS mobile device. In addition, users can see an overview of all exams on any internet-enabled device via the WebApp and share auto-filled reports with colleagues or clients using our PDF downloader. This means faster charting, less paperwork, increased time-savings, and more secure patient data.
Observations and notes at your fingertips
Details such as mucous membrane color, intestinal peristalsis, capillary refill time, behavior, and medications can be quickly charted. This information is automatically saved, and patient data is encrypted and privately stored on our secure cloud servers for future access via your account.
TPR records & counting tool
In addition to charting, you can also easily calculate pulse and respiration using our built-in counting tool. To use it, simply set the duration of your manual measurement and tap the counter button in the breath or pulse rhythm to record the data. The tool will then automatically calculate the value and auto-fill the related field. Temperature can be recorded manually—or digitally if you have the Piavet System—and you can fill in the value according to your chosen temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit).
Examination tracking
Another aspect of this new feature is the ability to keep a secure digital record of every patient’s exams. In the Card Index, which is easily found on the left-side menu of your dashboard, you can see and edit your list of patients, owners and examinations.
PDF export
To the right of each exam, you will see an icon for viewing and downloading a PDF. Simply click this icon to see the auto-filled report and download it to your device. You can then share it via email or print it out for a client or other use. Each examination is given a unique ID on our platform. In the PDF report you will see a QR code, which is tied to this unique ID. Our developers are currently working on adding a unique URL behind each QR code that will give users the ability to scan the code and be taken to that exam in the app.
Patient management
Using our built-in patient management system, Piavet Exam Users can add owners and patients, and record exam notes all in one place. Whether you’re an ambulatory vet needing to save time on the road, a vet assistant doing rounds, or a horse owner who wants to keep a clear record of their horse’s health, the Piavet Platform will help save time and provide a simple but detailed way to safely store and access a history of patient data.
What can I access on the WebApp?
The Piavet WebApp—our desktop application that is accessible from any computer, tablet, or phone using an Internet browser—is a place to see an overview of all examinations. After logging in, you will see your examinations directly on the dashboard.
The WebApp does not currently support creating new exams or adding patients and owners, but this is something our team will consider given new user feedback. For now, the convenience of using this feature on-the-go is the primary focus, as our vets reported mostly accessing their mobile devices during the day and during rounds, and only sitting down at their desktop computers and laptops at the end of the day or at home.
What if I don’t have an iOS device?
While we do not have an Android app at this time, it is on our radar for development when resources allow. In the meantime, Android users can enjoy our mobile-responsive WebApp to view exams recorded from an iOS device. For example, if a vet tech has used their iOS device to record several examinations, a vet or other colleague with an Android device could log in to the same account from an Android phone using the Internet browser to see an overview of the tech’s recorded exams.
What’s coming up?
Our developers are already working on some added functionality to the exam feature. These plans include displaying examination progress, providing an exportable over-time view of exams for each individual patient (to track health changes over time), adding functionality to the PDF QR code for easier record tracking, and more!
