Press Release | Better Remote Monitoring with Piavet App for iOS

Piavita Enables Better Remote Monitoring for Equine Vets During Pandemic with New iOS App Release

[GERMANY/SWITZERLAND/USA, May 13, 2020] — In the equine health industry, veterinarians are constantly on the go, whether it’s in the clinic or on the road. And as the coronavirus pandemic has restricted movement and altered veterinarians’ ability to physically be with patients in many cases, the value of remote, long-term data collection cannot be understated. With the latest release of the Piavet app for iOS, vets can monitor patients remotely from their iOS mobile device, keeping themselves, their staff, and their clients safe while maintaining a high level of patient care.

Piavet App for iOS – Version  1.1

With support from angel investors and renowned partners like True Ventures and FyrFly Venture Partners, the latest and biggest release to date of the Piavet app for iOS brings the mobile experience closely in line with the web app, with only a few small features still on the horizon.

Piavet for iOS allows equine veterinarians and practitioners to easily start vital sign measurements, view real-time health data, and access patient information on an iPad or iPhone. Users can now customize alerts on measurements started on their iOS mobile device to get SMS and push notifications when parameters are breached. ECG charts are now better than ever, with improved scaling, RR interval display, drag and drop capability, and easier navigation. Hardware status is now displayed with simple icons and patient timelines are now visible for better case management (on iPad). Cloud storage means overtime charts and patient records are kept forever, so vets have more information to make diagnostic and treatment decisions.

Piavita and the Piavet System

Piavita is a Swiss startup, born after co-founder Sascha Bührle developed a technology to measure the terrain of mountain bike trails through ground layers to optimize  suspension. But when Sascha brought the idea to colleague and co-founder Dr. Dorina Thiess, it became clear to them both that a technology that could measure precisely through layers was destined for the health industry. After visiting a large animal hospital for testing, they witnessed the analog, daily routines of veterinarians who were doing manual, repetitive vital sign checks and taking hand-written notes. Sascha and Dorina knew they could help improve the daily lives of veterinarians and set out to develop the Piavet System.

The Piavet System enables equine veterinarians to see to see vital signs and related data such as ECG, RR intervals, heart rate, respiration rate, body temperature, and activity. Vets can run long-term, continuous measurements to see trends over time, manage patient care, view patient information and historical data, and collaborate with colleagues.

A Galloping Success

With strategic development and financial support from Swiss angel investors, Zürcher Kantonalbank, investiere venture capital, and government startup funding, it only took two years to get Piavita off the ground. And today, 45 hospitals, clinics, and practices rely on the Piavet System for patient monitoring. Over 350 users within those practices have racked up a massive 7,000 hours of data recordings in the last six months alone, a number that saw a huge rise since the onset of pandemic-related restrictions. Ranging from university clinics to individual practices and research facilities to international airlines, Piavet users span eight countries, including the US where sales efforts since entering the market in 2019 have proven successful.

With the combination of sensor-driven hardware and AI-powered software, Piavita is providing something truly unique in the market today. While there are competitors such as TeleVet and Cardi/o, Piavita is currently the only company that delivers a complete set of vital signs and a full ECG display from a single lead with no wires or clipping necessary. The Piavet Solution is also unique in the market for delivering all of this data alongside a patient management system that allows equine vets to collaborate with team members and specialists on cases from any computer or iOS mobile device.
