Phew! We’ve been busting our you know what’s over the past several weeks to bring our current customers and future connected clinicians a whole new mobile experience with the Piavet app for iOS. And we have our customers to thank!
Our customer support team has been right there alongside our users, answering questions and tracking feedback. And through these close relationships, we’ve been able to thread our customers’ desires into our development decisions. So, we couldn’t be more excited to announce the release of version 1.1 of the Piavet app, now available in the App Store!
The Piavet System – A Quick Look
The Piavet System‘s main components—Piavet Measuring Device and Piavet Belt, Piavet Base Station, and Piavet Platform—work together to provide real-time, non-invasive, remote access to equine patient vital signs and related health parameters.
The durable hardware and comfortable surcingle enable long-term recordings of ECG, R-R intervals, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and activity. Using sophisticated algorithms, the data is made available on our software platform. Simply log in to your account to access live or past recordings, collaborate with colleagues, and more!

The Piavet App for iOS
Piavet for iOS allows equine veterinarians and practitioners to easily start vital sign measurements, view real-time health data, and access patient information on an iPad or iPhone. No need to disturb a recovering horse in his stall. Remote monitoring with the Piavet System gives you objective, uninfluenced insights into your patients’ health day or night. With the Piavet app, you can take your patients with you and put those hours spent doing manual checks back into your day.
Piavet App Version 1.1
While the Piavet app for iOS isn’t new, version 1.1 is the biggest update yet. Our lead iOS developer, Rouzbeh Abadi, worked tirelessly alongside our product team for six weeks to release version 1.1 earlier than anticipated.
When asked about the most enjoyable aspect of the project, he said it was working with the Apple-developed API framework, Metal. He also said this was the most challenging part (which pretty much sums up our product team—they love a challenge).
What’s New?
Regarding version 1.1, Rouzbeh said app users will especially notice and enjoy more reliable charts and more useful data, such as R-R intervals and Y-axis values. Whereas the many user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) improvements will make using the app much easier, they may not be as noticeable as other updates.
Overall, Piavet version 1.1 for iOS makes accessing detailed patient data even easier, giving vets instant, real-time access to their most critical patients from anywhere.
– View recently and currently monitored horses
– Easily access patient lists
– Look closer at medical data
– Set custom alerts on mobile-started measurements
– Get in-app notifications about releases, updates, and planned downtime
– Adjust your personal settings
– Check on the status of your system components
And more…
Alerts & Notifications
You can now set alerts for iOS-started measurements right on your mobile device! Get alerted when vitals range outside your selected parameters four or more times within 15 minutes. Check out this blog post to watch the short tutorial video and learn how easy it is to enable and customize notifications on the Piavet Platform. In addition, we added in-app notifications, easily found with our bell icon.

Hardware Display
One long-standing feature of the web version of the Piavet Platform has been the ability to see your hardware devices—base stations and measuring devices—and their statues, such as connectivity and battery life. This is now available on the Piavet app as well, with new measuring device and base station icons for easy navigation. This allows you to have on-the-go visibility into your system connectivity to keep your day running smoothly.

Chart Navigation & Scaling
A host of chart improvements came with this release, including:
– Improved icon navigation
– Drag and drop charts
– Improved chart scaling for a more detailed ECG view
– RR intervals (displayed in milliseconds) now visible
– Improved overtime charts with min and max HR shown in 20-second time windows
– Expand candle view to see 20-second ECG segments

Patient Management
The Piavet Platform’s patient timeline view is now available on iPad for a complete patient management experience. This capability is in development for iPhone.

User Experience
Overall, comprehensive UX improvements were employed in this release to bridge the gap between the iOS and web app experiences. Now, switching from your laptop or desktop computer to your mobile device is more seamless than ever. Improved navigation with updated and added icons also makes navigating the app simple.
Stay connected to your patients, no matter where you are.
